The list of things that will slow down or stop traffic can be strange.
Animals:
Animals running into traffic and getting hit by cars can be serious because of the accidents that it can cause and damage that can happen. Then there are those animal corpses on the road to look at while you drive, which might not slow you down but is certainly an unpleasant view.
People:
Unfortunately people will block traffic when they decide that suicide on the freeway is their only choice. Highway suicides go up significantly around the Valentine festivities. The number of suicides on the road, by bridge, or by people jumping in front of cars goes up after a well known publicized suicide happens.
Creamer:
Oddball items that block the road does include fragrant and slippery French vanilla coffee creamer. A very busy freeway in Phoenix Arizona had to close down for the day (12 hours) after a tanker carrying the creamer overturned. Luckily the driver wasn’t hurt very badly when the trailer crashed into a guardrail. This particular area is known to be one of the most congested traffic spots in the US. The white film spread over 150 feet of the freeway.
Duck Herd:
Apparently a particular farmer regularly herds his ducks for a full kilometer across the city of Taizhou. He has been doing this for 6 months now and he hasn’t lost any ducks in the process. While he does time this herding business to avoid rush hour traffic there were still drivers that were and are severely slowed on their journeys.
