You may already know that you need to give tips to a variety of people that you regularly encounter in life. The fact is that people in some jobs of the service industry usually live off of their tips. Tipping is no joke.
Tip story:
A customer at Applebee’s wrote a note on her tab that basically said “if god only gets 10% why do you get 18%?” Another waitress took a picture of the bill with the written note and the very obvious scratching out of the tip. She added her own note which stated “my mistake sir, I’m sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries”.
So what happens in the end?
Well, the non-tipping pastor gets mad and complains. The server that took the photo and wrote her own note was fired. The pastor also claims that she left a cash tip on the table and is now very embarrassed by the whole incident.
Lesson learned?
Some people are cheap, but that does not mean they don’t want everyone to know that about them. This particular pastor could have been complaining that she does not get enough money from her parishioners as well and that is an embarrassing way of trying to get more. Obviously the wait staff has likely learned that they can get fired for more reasons than they realized. I wonder if Applebee’s would be embarrassed enough to settle if she decided to sue over getting fired?
Rights and responsibilities:
Those in the many different jobs of the service industry need to be paid appropriately. Some do get a base pay that goes beyond the minimum wage while others don’t and the tips that they get make up for that. It is also irresponsible for customers to be rude themselves. That old idea of treating someone as you want to be treated yourself is a good idea. If you are going to be mean or in the very least snarky about something then you should expect the same treatment in return.
